liked it alot as the soup is tasty and the meat is tender. Not to mention the portion is huge as well. Having this during winter is just perfect

Very cozy and traditional. Staff is very attentive. Small souvenir store inside. Came here based on a local friend's recommendation. Big dining area. They sometimes have bear houtou as an option but it wasn't available when we visited. It was a very nice experience.

Loved the traditional experience here and the local food was delicious. If you aren't being served the etiquette is put you hand up to gain one the nanas attention.

Nothing special other than houtou noodles. It’s a thicker and flatter udon like noodle with soup and meat. We went with the pork and it was decent. Tempura was decent as well. We just wanted to try and see what the local specialty was about.

Good soba restaurant - is absolutely slammed at lunch but the place is huge so getting a seat is around 20 mins at peak wait.Food was good - nothing to amazing that would make me want to run back and line up.Here is more overall Japanese experience and decent food - slightly on the higher price scale for what you get. Service was good, did feel sorry for the staff as they were constantly running around trying to serve or seat people.Worth coming

Food may be pricey but it comes in BIG proportions. Average price of 1100 yen for a HUGE bowl. Staff are quick and polite even during busy hours. There is an option for an English menu if you are not able to read Japanese. 100% recommend if you are okay with a little splurge. If you are not driving, you can get off the Kawaguchiko Red bus at bus stop 2 (stop in front of Lawson's) and walk a little bit.

Great place to eat. The food was delicious. The service was great.

Delicious... Japan not always ramen and udon.. Must try houtou if u get tge chance.. It's like udon, but wider and thinner.. The spicy beef (forgot the menu name) is highly recommended

I had a fantastic experience in this large traditional restaurant, that was recommended by a local while visiting the area. I enjoyed a bowl of local Hoto noodles, together with some hot sake. The noodles are thick and they are served in a delicious broth of miso and vegetables, with pumpkin being the most important one. The service was really friendly and the location incredibly beautiful

If only I could try the bear meat one.

We were looking for a bowl of piping hot noodles after a few hours out in the cold and found what we needed here. Ordered the spicy pork and normal pork hoto noodles plus the Cucumber with Miso and water cress. It really hit the spot. The servings are very big though. We wished we'd ordered one noodle to share and something else to share. There"s a lot of ingredients in the noodles which was great. The restaurant features tatami seating which we loved. Staff were friendly and understood a little English but the English menu helped a lot. Thumbs up!

Beautiful restaurant with quick and friendly service. They even have an English menu. Most importantly the food was amazing! Some of the best food I've had in japan! Also large portions so make sure you are hungry! 10/10 would recommend to any visitors in the area.

I had the pumpkin houtou soup, kabocha houtou, and it was delicious. Also, the restaurant has a really neat atmosphere.

Unforgettable dining experience. Hoto soup was more on the medium richness level, and quite tasty. Noodle was thick so it’s very fulfilling. Big portion.

Delicious pumpkin houtou

Good specialty food, tempura and fried fish and octopus must haves.

This is a good restaurant located in the center of the town. Inside this place is very cozy and good atmosphere in Japanese-style decoration. There are many choices of food from Hoto (a local food of Kawaguchiko area) to others (Soba, tempura) with large portion. Food taste is also good. Staffs are very polite and helpful but need to work more quickly. Price is a little bit high but affordable. Free parking lots are in front of this place.

Kosaku (å°ä½œ) is a chained restaurant that is specialized in Tempura (Large Size). Their food quantity is well maintained. You won't be disappointed of what you get from them. However, do not expect they understand English, but they do have a multi-language menu and with helps of a pictured menu, you can get what you want, mostly.

I love that they have variety of Hotou instead of just one. The only veg friendly ones are unfortunately the normal Hotou or Suiton, but I think this place is more fun to come in as a family or with friends.

very traditional dinning area, food is nice

The concensus of the group is that this is perhaps a tourist trap. The food was kinda average. I should have been tipped off by the fact that it was a huge restaurant with a huge parking lot where every other good restaurant in this town is really small. I wonder if the owner is even Japanese bcos I was frankly surprised at the quality of the food being just above average. They may have Japanese servers, but this didn't feel like a top notch place, despite the Google reviews. I guess there is something to be said for seeing over 2000 reviews for a restaurant when every other restaurant has a few hundred reviews and sometimes less. Personally, I don't want to go where the tour buses eat. I've been on tours in other countries and have ALWAYS found that the restaurants that they take you to are average … when it would've been better to skip the tour meal and find a good local venue away from the group.

Bit out of the way but lovely restaurant with traditional seating, very English friendly. Highly popular for a reason, the houtou noodles were the standout with thick rich soup, chewy noodles and hearty portions of Veges and meat. Enjoyed the wild boar more than spicy pork which felt more like Korean fusion with its kimchi.

Nice ambience, good food, local speciality of this area. Those who like heat must add their special spice powder. Smoky taste.
Ivan Fung
Amazing. I ordered the pork houtou which was a great choice!

Fantastic houtou, traditional venue and lovely staff. English menu available.

Delicious thick noodles in broth with varieties of meats ðŸ—, ðŸ», ðŸ¢,🦆 or 🴠(no joke!) and pumpkin. The house specialty comes with raw horse meat. Rarely a wait for dinner, fast service.

Definitely recommended if you're in the area. I had the duck houtou, and it was excellent. It was a bit light on the actual duck meat, but delicious and quite filling (great for dinner before my Fuji hike)
Anna Skripnik
Good place with tasty food.

Amazing food in an epic environment would highly recommend, especially on a cold day! This dish in the pork hoto, it was delicious and a great price
Julien Menichini
Nice, cozy and traditional restaurant.A good choice if you travel in the region even if the houtou I ate was not sensational.

This restaurant must be reached by car. The soup is just AWESOME. Be there when it's open, because there is many people waiting. The food is really good. Inside is traditional style. The staff is very kind with Japanese efficiency. Prices are not cheap and not expensive. Good price. A good surprise wirh some soup like boar, turtle, duck or BEAR !! Wow ^_^ A must try if you want a good restaurant in Kawaguchi.

The soup is so good... the noodles has a chewy texture to it which pairs so well with the soup base 💕 wanted to try the bear and horse meat version but it was sold out. So we had the spicy beef version (taste v similar to kimchi soup), wild boar version and duck meat version.Back in sg and im missing this again. Best dish ever.

Food is awesome, and the atmosphere is wonderful, but they need more staff. There was literally a hundred open seating that needed to be bused while many were waiting to be seated. Expect to wait for about an hour to be seated. With better management, this place would rock, like 5 stars

The restaurant itself is very cute and spacious. You take your shoes off out front and sit Japanese style. The houtou noodles (think thick egg noodles) are alright, though broth is good. It was just a lot of dough to everything else ratio. The tempura was surprisingly delicious! The hot sauce is also very different and worth trying-a bit like ma la but with lots of sesame. Cute place to visit, but don’t go out of your way for this place.
Emelson Maestro
If you want excellent tempura, you've come to the right place. After strolling around Fuji five lakes area, you're sure to fill yourself up with delicious tempura, easily accessible, too! If you find yourself queuing up for your turn, you are sure to get excellent food in just a few moments, as the place is usually packed with visitors and regulars alike!

Very tasty noodles, nice atmosphere

Great place to try the local dish - houtou. It's a little pricey for the soup but I'm glad I made the trek out. Expect to pay 14-20 for your soup.
Aleksandrs Lapkovskis
Loved it. This place is very Japanese style. Food was awesome but a little bit pricey. But serving sizes were huge. Can easily share 1 soup for 2 people.

Nice atmosphere, large area for seating, low tables with tatami mats. I'd describe the pumpkin hotou as medium-richness, flavorful. An odd quirk was no hot tea on the menu. I was a bit saddened to see bear and horse on the menu, but that's just my American sensibility. The pumpkin was in season and good.
Beatrice She
Very good atmosphere and service, the most important thing is hoto is so tasty! This is the must eat especially when it's only 2 Celsius degrees outside.
Melvin Chan
A must to come, pumpkin soup based noodle with tradition noodles found only in this area. Atmosphere is great with attentive staffs. The duck based soup is superb for duck lovers, the beef spicy is from the kimchi only.
